World Food India 2024, held from September 19-22, 2024, was a major food industry event that brought together policymakers, investors, and food companies from around the world. At this prestigious gathering, 10 startups incubated at the Agri Business Incubation Foundation IIT Kharagpur participated and showcased their innovative products and technologies to visitors. These startups, nurtured by ABIF IIT Kharagpur, demonstrated a range of cutting-edge solutions. Their participation highlighted the institute's commitment to fostering agri-food innovation and entrepreneurship, as previously demonstrated through initiatives like the Agri-Food Techathon (AFT 2021). The startups' presence at World Food India 2024 provided them with a valuable platform to connect with potential investors, partners, and customers from both domestic and international markets. Their innovations aligned well with the event's focus on promoting sustainable practices, maximizing resource utilization, and addressing global food security challenges1.
Participated in AGRIUDAAN® 5.0 Roadshow in Kolkata organized by a-IDEA, ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad in collaboration with ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata.
One session in the series of “Krishi Udyam” - Secret Sauce of Successful Agripreneurs, was organized with Shri Ayon Hazra Founder & CEO, Borlaug Web Services on 18 Oct 2022, Kolkata on the topic of “Block chain in Agriculture – Improving Agricultural Techniques”. Mr. Hazra mainly talked about applications of Block chain in Agriculture, its advantages and scope for Agri Business in the domain.
A Sensitization Workshop cum Training Program for FPOs was organized on 26 October 2022 (Wednesday) on following topics to help farmers, FPOs, FPCs etc. for sound understanding of the technical areas and implementation of the same for business enhancement. a. Mechanical intervention for jute fiber extraction from stem of the plants. b. Mechanical intervention for banana fiber extraction from stem of the plants. c. Technical prospects of installation of mini rice mill. d. Technical prospects of installation of spices grinding machine and e. Automatic rice seedling tray planting & soil filling machine. f. The program witnessed 41 participations of the FPO directors and CEOs from the eastern region of the country.
A workshop on "Startup Finance and Valuation" via online mode was successfully organized from 7th February 2023 onwards. This workshop dealt with all the basic and essential aspects of startup finance and valuation, tutored by experienced mentors in a step-by-step manner. The target audience consisted of our incubatees, entrepreneurs, startup founders, wantrepreneurs, incubation managers or any interested individual. The sessions included Startup Finance, Financial Planning and its Need, Understanding Three Statement Model, how to manage Startup Finance and Unit Economics, Discussion on “How to Approach the Financers” and Readiness Assessment, Types of Investment Instruments and Startup Valuation (Theory), Startup Valuation (Practical), Deal Negotiation and Structuring of Deal/Cap Table. The sessions were majorly led by Mr. Amrit Tiwari, AVP-investment, IIM Lucknow enterprise incubator.
The foundation has organized a training program for Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) Kolkata on ‘Financing Agro Start-ups’ from 22nd to 24th February 2023. Total number of participants were 25 and they were from various Regional Rural Banks, Gramin Banks, State Cooperative Banks such as Jharkhand State Cooperative Bank, Telangana State Cooperative Bank, Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank, Dakhin Bihar Gramin Bank and Odisha Gramya Bank
One online session under ‘Startup-FPO Immersion Program’ has been organized on 18 May 2023. The startup Agrograde from Pune, Maharashtra, demonstrated the smart grading and sorting machines developed by them. The AI powered machines have over 95% accuracy in size grading and over 91% accuracy in defect sorting. Agrograde claims that their Optical sorter is the world’s most affordable machine in the segment. Sixteen registered FPO directors attended the program online and learnt the importance of grading their produce. The knowledge will empower growers to command higher prices, enhance packaging and handling processes, and bring overall improvements to the marketing system. A few of them expressed their interest in buying the technology from the startup.
The ABIF IIT Kharagpur organized the Induction Program 2023 on 14th June 2023 to mark the beginning of the entrepreneurial journey of newly onboarded incubatees working in agriculture, rural development and allied sectors. 58 incubatees participated in hybrid mode out of which seven participated in showcasing their products during the event.
On August 22, 2023, a workshop was organized under 'Startup-FPO Immersion Program. The event was addressed by Prof. Rintu Banerjee, Head AgFE and Director ABIF IIT Kharagpur. She emphasized the significance of the program and highlighted the incubation opportunity at ABIF IIT Kharagpur. Twenty registered FPO directors, along with the founders of three startups, participated in the program and shared knowledge. A startup named M/s GeeCom India Services Pvt. Ltd. from Indore, MP joined us and demonstrated a user-friendly ERP solution developed for FPOs. This innovative system efficiently manages farmers' information, ensuring accuracy and minimizing time consumption. The system covers various aspects such as personal details, crop information, etc., and it can be customized to meet the specific requirements of FPOs at a nominal cost. M/s Zero Costs Organic Pvt. Ltd. Kolkata, WB and M/s Yogitha Biofarming Pvt. Ltd., Kharagpur, WB showcased their expertise on zero budget natural farming and affordable soil testing solutions respectively. The overwhelming positive response from all participants contributed to the success of the program.
